REGGAE MUSIC HISTORY:
Reggae music was inspired by American jazz and rhythm in blues and has had a long history from where it began to what it evolved into. Reggae was inspired by American Jazz and rhythm and blues (which you can certainly hear in their sound) and generally follows the same composition:

- Relates news, social gossip, and political comment
- Consists of two guitars (one for lead and one for rhythm), drums, congas, and a keyboard
- Many songs promote the use of cannabis

Not only did it take inspiration from other genres, but it also inspired many other forms of music thereafter. In the UK, reggae was key to the development of genres such as drums and bass and Dubstep.

Like all music, the sounds of reggae have chanced and developed into styles distinct from one another. Root reggae, for example, is a subgenre of reggae that deals with the everyday lives and aspirations of the artist, as well as a deep display of reverence for the spiritual side of Rastafarian culture. It also aims to identify with the “ghetto sufferer” and the “rural poor”.

A new form of reggae known as reggae fusion is an admixture that combines Dancehall (a faster rhythm style of reggae) with other genres such as pop, rock, R&B, jazz, and drum and bass. The term contemporary reggae has seen resurgence in the music realm after a period of decline with artists such as Sean Paul and Drake who produced music with a Dancehall inspired sound and beat.
